Well, I was “Stumbling” today -Yes, I do that from time to time! lol.
And, I came across this video that I have to share with you. This is a really quick post, but I get quite a bit of email from people who tell me that I’m an inspiration for what I’ll I’ve been through. Since I was amazed at this kid, Ben Underwood, I thought readers of this blog might be just as amazed.
Let me give you a brief bit of background info to let you know why you should watch this video. When Ben Underwood was just a few years old, it was discovered that he had cancer the size of a marble in his eyeballs. After lots of chemotherapy and treatment, the cancer was still present in trace amounts throughout his eyes. Since there was only a slim chance of ever getting rid of it completely and there was a much greater chance that the cancer would spread up the optic nerve -eventually killing him, his mother made a very difficult choice.
She chose to have his eyes removed.
I cannot imagine how tough that must have been on her and on Ben. However, she never let Ben feel like less of a person and she always told him he could do anything. Now, it seems he has become more of a person than most. Ben uses short, clicking sounds that he makes with his mouth as a type of “sonar” ping that he is able to translate with his ears into 3-dimensional maps of the world. He can play basketball, ride a bike, and do normal everyday things just like you and me. I thought it was funny that some of his childhood friends didn’t even know he was blind! Check it out!
