It was close, because of the ShrinkTheWeb outage over the weekend. I just barely managed to meet my deadline on the inital draft overview of my proposal with my client yesterday. But, we had a good session and they can see that I do excellent research. So, that’s good. Now, I have a LOT more work to do in refining my presentation and gathering a lot more data. The presentation to my potential European client is only a week away… Eek!
Over the weekend, it took me nearly 5 hours to fix ShrinkTheWeb, my website thumbnail generator service. I am fairly certain that a system software update is what broke it. Argh. Computers, gotta love ‘em… or not. Anyway, one good thing that came out from this is that because the queue backed up so much, I figured out that there was a simple-to-fix but major bug in the new routine to allow my multiple servers to process the queue. I know that went over most people’s heads but just bare with me. Basically, that means that the queue will no longer hang when there are more than 1,000 thumbnails waiting and it means that my software will generate thumbnails at about a 500% increase in speed. Woo hoo! ![]()
